EXHIBITION x 1
Inner West Home Building Expo - 29 August 2010 Council's Civic Hall, breakout rooms and promoting Victoria Road as a self-guided renovating/building destination
Only 6 businesses expressed an interest in attending the Sydney Home Show this year, which is not enough to justify attendance and expenditure of Council. In lieu of this event, Council has decided to host a Inner West Home Building Expo at the Civic Hall in August 2010.Capacity of the event will be set at 800 visitors.
Features of this event include:
- 20 local businesses promoting their services/products in 5sqm stands including walls and fascia business name board. Participating businesses will be required to pay $250-$300 to host a stand. Council will be funding the remainder 75% of the event budget.
- Tradespeople will be able to participate in the trade desk (ask an expert) which will be positioned on the stage of the hall. The fee is $100 per business.
- Businesses located on Victoria Road, will be promoted at the event in a Self-Guide tour guide of Victoria Road. Announcements during the event will be made encouraging consumers to visit Victoria Road businesses.
- Businesses are also invited to conduct ½ hour to one hour seminars in either the Canada Bay Room or Council chambers. Only businesses with topics that are informative will be allocated seminar space.
- Additional seminars will be on the following 'rough' topics:
- Being an owner builder and home warranty insurance
- Planning legislation and your property
- What is a Principal Certifying Authority and how do they protect you, the consumer
- Heritage and Your Renovation
- Finding a tradesperson and contracts
- Dispute resolution for homeowners
- Sustainability and your home

TRAINING AND CPD
Council currently provides a training schedule for businesses. However we are keen to consider introducing additional training to be hosted at Concord Library for the building industry.
